While working as a freelance editor under Professor Jyotsna Singh, I edited a manuscript that had 26 contributors from all around the world. Therefore, I was in charge of formatting and copyediting all of the essays that constituted the entire manuscript. With a strict filing system and editorial calendar, I was able to streamline the style of all of the essays and ensure that the manuscript was complete and consistent. Because the manuscript has not been released yet, I am not authorized to showcase the specific edits that I made to the book but I can walk you through my process as an editor and how I came to create a final end product. Creating an Editorial CalendarWhile working under the direction of Professor Jyotsna Singh, I had to ensure that I was reaching my goals and deadlines in an efficient manner. Therefore, based upon her information and timelines, I created an editorial calendar for myself in order to keep strict deadlines. I gave myself about three days to format each almost 30 page essay and then another extra day to reformat anything that Professor Singh wanted changed with the version that I sent her. .The manuscript was initially edited all between the months of March 2015 to June 2015.

Managing Essays and ImagesCoordinating with a managing editor and 26 other authors can be difficult at times. Throughout the process, there were many different versions of essays, complete with comments, suggestions and clarifications. Therefore, I had to organize folders based upon each author, each round of the editing process and what date the essay had previously been sent. Along with that, I had separate coordinating folders that held images, image captions and other manuscript materials including the author biographies, table of content and acknowledgements.

Formatting and Editing ProcessThe entirety of the manuscript was edited within the Chicago Manual of Style. When I was afforded this opportunity, I immediately began brushing up on all of the important conventions, tips and tricks that were included within the CMS. I also ensured that I was up to date and noted any changes within the 2015 edition of the manual. Once I began editing, I was in charge of completely reading through each essay, formatting the essay based on the in-house style standards and extensively checking the footnotes and references at the end of each essay.
